In the diagnosis stage

By pandorystory

I had gestational diabetes while pregnant with my son 3 years ago. I just took a blood test last week and found out that I have a fasting blood of 140 – red flag that I have diabetes. While I was pregnant, I would never have a fasting blood that broke 95 and would only get to 140 after a meal of heavy carbs!

My initial reaction? Terror and guilt. Terrified that I’d just drastically shortened my life and guilt that I did it to myself with a sedentary lifestyle and indulgence in food. Especially guilty because I had a warning (gestational diabetes), knew what it was like to live with diabetes, knew all the risks and causes and STILL let myself gain 20 lbs AFTER giving birth.

Thank God for the internet, the support message boards on WebMD, and the kind people who are willing to care about and encourage a stranger.

My goals in life are to live healthy with my husband to age 75, raise 3 healthy kids (I’m on 1 right now), and be happy. This is my blog.
